Billy: It's women that's shaped like leaves, and men fall.
From the movie "The Shipping News"
Billy: It's finding the center of your story, the beating heart of it, that's what makes a reporter. You have to start by making up some headlines. You know: short, punchy, dramatic headlines. Now, have a look, what do you see?
[Points at dark clouds at the horizon]
Billy: Tell me the headline.
Quoyle: Horizon Fills With Dark Clouds?
Billy: Imminent Storm Threatens Village.
Quoyle: But what if no storm comes?
Billy: Village Spared From Deadly Storm.
this is from The Apartment, which came out in 1960. that was before i was born, but i've only recently watched this brilliant movie, co-written and directed by the genius Billy Wilder.
it's a quote by the main cutey Fran Kubelik, played sweetly by Shirely MacLaine: When you're in love with a married man you shouldn't wear mascara.
i totally recommend this movie if you haven't seen it... it's funny and sad and understated with a very satisfying ending.
Danielle: You, sir, are supposed to be charming.
Henry: And we, princess, are supposed to live happily ever after.
Danielle: Says who?
Henry: You know, I don't know.
Grand Dame: [voiceover] My great-great-grandmother's portrait hung in the university up until the Revolution. By then, the truth of their romance had been reduced to a simple fairy tale. And, while Cinderella and her prince did live happily ever after, the point, gentlemen, is that they lived.
I can't help it, I love the show according to him. Jim Belushi is flippin' hilarious.
So I was watching a re-run last night and found myself cracking up, literally, laughing so loud. Oh it must have seemed humorous to those who had to have heard me in Japan.
So here are some quotes from the show:
Ruby: Daddy, since Gracie won, can Kyle and I have popsicles?
Jim: How does that work?
Ruby: She's our sister, we're part of her posse.
Jim: Dana, would you tell your sister her ass is not big?
Dana: But you are big, Jim.
ROFL! Oh it's just too much! Hahahaha!
One of my absolute FAVORITE movies of all time is Always from 1989. If you haven't seen it, I HIGHLY recommend it - but be forewarned, it IS a tear jerker!!
One of my favorite quotes is from this movie. Near the beginning of the movie, Dorinda has gotten a birthday present of a beautiful dress, shoes, ... the whole get up from her boyfriend, Pete. Of course, they're talking about it and all and she says: "It's not the dress... it's the way you see me. "
That line just slays me. It's a total "awww" moment ... you know that she totally loves him and loves what he thinks of her. The whole relationship is pretty much summed up in that one statement! If you watch the movie ... and I don't want to ruin it for anyone ... you see that it doesn't even matter if (when) he messes up! I guess this one gets me because I have this with my own husband. When he's around, I FEEL beautiful. "Awwww", right? ;)
Lloyd Dobler: [leaving the last of a series of messages on Diane's answering machine] "Maybe I didn't really know you. Maybe you were just a mirage. Maybe the world is full of food and sex and spectacle and we're all just hurling towards an apocalypse, in which case it's not your fault. I'm been thinking about all these things and... you're probably standing there monitoring. And one more thing - about the letter. Nuke it. Flame it. Destroy it. - It hurts me to know it's out there. Later."
If you have never watched the movie "Say Anything" which came out in 1989 and starred John Cusack, well then you have seriously been depriving yourself and you must go rent it or buy it and then WATCH IT, right now! =o)
The Notebook is one of the best written love stories of all time and the movie to go along with the story is simply beautiful.
Allie: Now say you're a bird too.
[she jumps on him while they are at the beach]
Noah: If you're a bird, I'm a bird.
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return." ~ Christian (Ewan McGregor), Moulin Rouge!
....but actually a lyric from the song "Nature Boy".
Said to Neo: "You take the blue pill, the story ends and you wake up believing whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland and I show you just how deep the rabbit hole goes. "
